European Parliament

The European Parliament (EP) is one of the two legislative bodies of the European Union, alongside the Council. It currently holds 705 parliamentarians from all 27 Member States who represent their respective political parties. Seen as the organ representing the ‘voice of the people’, the Parliament is vital to the functioning of the Union as it has important legislative, budgetary, supervisory and elective powers.

CHAIRS

Marc Zabel

Hey there, my name's Marc and I'll be one of your co-chairs for the European Parliament at EuroMUN 2023! First and foremost, a little about me: I'm a 21-year-old German university student studying Political Science at the lovely University of Mannheim. I started my MUN journey back in my first semester and have been hooked ever since. Especially now, given the opportunity to chair at EuroMUN, I'm incredibly grateful for all the memories MUN has given me. I’m unbelievably excited to be chairing the European Parliament, due to my fascination for everything European and the fact that its an institutional body that affects us directly every day. I hope you share my enthusiasm as well and I hope to see you in Maastricht!

Paul O’Brien

Dia dhuit! I‘m Paul, a 22 year old Mathematics/Political science student at the University of Freiburg in Germany. My MUN journey has been exciting; started with the beginnings of FREIMUN at our university and not knowing what I was doing as a delegate, to being SecGen at our first conference this summer. I really enjoyed EuroMUN last year so it is great to be returning. Growing up in Luxembourg with Irish parents and studying in Germany, it’s no wonder I have a particular interest in all things EU. So being the true European I am, I am really excited to be involved in this year’s European Parliament. Can’t wait to meet you all and see what we can do about Europe and it’s elections.
